
FIERY FOUNTAIN: Beneath Earth's crust lies molten rock called magma. When a volcano erupts, some of the rock flows out. Magma that reaches the surface is called lava. Sometimes lava flows swiftly, like pancake batter. At other times, it moves slowly, like toothpaste.
